Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Phyllite Samples Based on Chemical (XRF) and Mineralogical Data by XRD
It is presented the results obtained of a multivariate statistical analysis concerning the chemical and phase composition, as a characterization purpose, carried out with 52 rock phyllite samples selected from the provinces of AlmerÃa and Granada (SE Spain). Chemical analysis was performed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF). Crystalline phase analysis was performed by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and the mineralogical composition was then deduced. Quantification of weight loss (100° and 1000°C) was carried out by thermal analysis. The aims of this investigation were to analyze and compare the chemical and mineralogical composition of all these samples and to find similarities and differences between them to allow a classification. Several correlations between results of the characterization techniques have been also investigated. All the data have been processed using the multivariate statistical analysis method. The XRF macroelements (10) and microelements (39) data generate one macrogroup with two new subgroups (1 and 2), and an isolated sample. In subgroup 1 of macroelements, a positive correlation was found between XRF results and geographic location characterized by lower MgO content, which is associated to its geological origins. When multivariate statistical analysis is applied to results obtained by XRD, two groups appear: the first one with a sample with zero percentage of iron oxide and the second one with the rest of the samples, which is classified in two groups. A correlation is observed between the alkaline content (XRF) and illite (XRD), CaO and MgO with dolomite and indirectly between the weight loss after heating at 1000°C and the contents of phase minerals that lose structural water (illite + chlorite) or carbon dioxide (dolomite). The present investigation has interest and implications for geochemistry and analytical chemistry concerning earth rocks and silicate raw material
Feasibility and reliability of a Physical Fitness test battery in individuals with Down Syndrome
Background: Down syndrome (DS) is a genetic disorder that occurs because of an abnormal
division between cells that results in an extra copy of chromosome 21. Some studies show that
physical exercise in people with DS increases some cognitive capacities, such as memory, and improves
the quality of life. Aim: The main aim of this study was to perform an analysis of the reliability
and feasibility of the SAMU-Disability Fitness (DISFIT) battery in adults with DS. Methods: A
cross-sectional study with a test–retest design was performed in a maximum interval of 2 weeks in
37 subjects (11 women and 26 men) aged between 21 and 58 years old with DS. Eight field-based
fitness tests were proposed to assess the physical fitness (PF) of adults with DS: Body Mass Index
(BMI), Waist Circumference (WC), the Timed Up and Go test (TUG), the Deep Trunk Flexibility test
(DTF), the Hand Grip test (HG), the Timed Stand Test (TST), the 30-s Sit-Up (SUP) and the 6-Min
Walk Test (6MWT). Results: The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) in all the tests was good
and high (>0.80), except for the 6MWT, whose reliability was fair. Conclusion: The SAMU-DISFIT
battery is a reliable and feasible physical fitness battery which has been created with the purpose
of establishing tests which measure the four basic components of PF (flexibility, cardiorespiratory
fitness, musculoskeletal fitness and motor fitness) in adults with D
A new Eliomys from the Upper Miocene of Spain and its implications for the phylogeny of genus
In this paper, we describe a previously unknown species of the glirid Eliomys from the Late Miocene and Early Pliocene Cabriel, Alcoy and Granada basins of southeastern Spain. Eliomys yevesi sp. nov. is characterized by its relative small size, narrow lingual wall and common presence of two centrolophs in the upper molars, and well-developed centrolophids in the lower molars. The new species is the probable ancestor of E. intermedius, which in turn represents the ancestor of the extant E. quercinus. According to its morphologic and biometric features, the origin of E. yevesi sp. nov. is likely to be found in some population of E. truci from the Late Miocene. Based on these affinities, we propose the lineage E. truci–E. yevesi sp. nov.–E. intermedius–E. quercinus, in which there is a trend towards the development of centrolophs, as well as the reduction of accessory crests
Melanie Klein’s formulations should not be framed as a mere development of Freudian Psychoanalysis. In fact, they represent a radical change in his methapsychology, the otherwise known, as an untouchable core of the system. Nevertheless, Melanie Klein deserves to have a privileged position among those female psychoanalysts who, in one way or another, contributed with original ideas to the psychology of the unconsciousness. Although, she always considered herself simply as a Freud’s follower, she ended up developing her own reign of knowledge
The main aim of this paper is to analyze the competitiveness of the agrifood industry and, within it, the meat sector, in the Spanish regions, using elements that undoubtedly influence this such as productivity, labor costs and food security. The main conclusions allow us to identify the enormous economic potential of the Spanish food sector, and the meat sub-sector in particular. Aspects such as the type of meat or the level of internationalization help us to identify those Spanish regions which require additional effort in food policy to keep its competitiveness is impaired
Lou Andreas-Salomé has been always considered a minor character in the history of Psychoanalisys. For the most part, she is remembered by her role as a lover of major figures of the beginning of the past century as well as by her literature writings yet not by any of her psychoanalytic contributions. These contributions, even though not of a great value, are worth of attention. In this work we attempt to briefly review her biography as well as to present some of her main psychoanalytic ideas, specifically those about narcisism and female sexuality
